Privacy notice
This site is a preview. It has no sign-ups, no cookies and no tracking. Here is exactly what personal information it does touch, what we do with it, and how to make us stop.
1. Who we are
Botswana Basket Collective (BBC, we) is the data controller for the personal information described here. We are based in Ngamiland and the Okavango Delta, Botswana, and we handle personal information in line with Botswana’s Data Protection Act, 2024 (Act No. 18 of 2024).
Where a visitor in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country with its own data protection law is entitled to that law’s protection, we respect the same rights described below. For any question about privacy, write to info@botswanabasket.org.
2. The short version
- The site has no forms, accounts, sign-ups or payments.
- It sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or social media plug-ins.
- Its fonts and images are served from this site, so your browser does not contact Google or any other third party to show it.
- The only personal information we receive is what any website receives to deliver a page, and whatever you choose to send us by email.
3. What we handle, why, and for how long
| Information | Why | Lawful basis | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technical request data: IP address, browser and device type, the page asked for, the referring page, date and time | To deliver the site, keep it secure and working, and investigate abuse | Our legitimate interest in running a secure website | Only as long as our hosting provider keeps its server logs for those purposes; we do not use them to profile visitors or combine them with other information |
| Emails you send us: your address, name, anything you write, and any attachment | To read and reply to you, and to keep a record of what was agreed | Our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or steps you ask us to take before entering into an agreement | Up to 24 months after our last exchange, unless the conversation leads to an ongoing relationship or we must keep it longer by law |
| Your email address, if you ask to hear when the shop opens | To send you that announcement | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time | Until we have sent the announcement, or you tell us to stop, whichever is sooner; then deleted |
We use your email address only for the purpose you wrote to us about. We will not add you to a marketing list unless you ask us to, and we never sell personal information.
6. Information leaving Botswana
Our hosting and email providers may store or process information on servers outside Botswana. Where they do, we transfer it only as the Data Protection Act, 2024 permits, for example to a country with adequate protection or under contractual safeguards that protect it to the standard the Act requires.
7. Keeping it safe
The site is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and with security headers that limit what can run on it. Access to our mailbox is restricted to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affecting your information occurs, we will notify the Information and Data Protection Commission and, where required, you, as the law requires.
8. Children
The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to write to us for you. If we learn that we hold a child’s information without that consent, we will delete it.
9. Your rights
Subject to the conditions the law sets, you have the right to:
- be told whether we hold personal information about you, and receive a copy of it;
- have inaccurate information corrected or incomplete information completed;
- have your information deleted;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it;
- receive information you gave us in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it;
- not be subject to decisions made solely by automated means (we make none).
To use any of these rights, write to info@botswanabasket.org. We may ask you to confirm who you are before acting. We will not charge you, and we will reply without undue delay and within the time the law allows.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to Botswana’s Information and Data Protection Commission, or to the data protection authority where you live.
10. Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when what we do with personal information changes, and in any case before the shop opens. The date at the top shows the latest version. See also our terms of use.
